Westform Metals Steel Siding & Architectural Cladding

Westform Metals manufactures Canadian steel siding, wall cladding, roofing and architectural metal systems for residential and commercial construction. Its current residential range combines traditional roll-formed profiles with newer architectural cladding options, allowing metal to be used for complete elevations, feature walls, soffits and coordinated multi-material exterior designs.

Diamond Exteriors has installed Westform products as part of its exterior work.  For projects in Kelowna and the Okanagan, Westform can work particularly well where the design calls for durable steel siding, crisp architectural lines, concealed fastening or wood-look metal finishes.

Westform Proboard

Proboard is available in 4-inch and 6-inch coverage widths and uses a hidden-fastener design. Westform describes it as a low-maintenance, non-combustible profile suitable for both residential and commercial applications. Panels are manufactured in custom lengths and are available in solid or perforated versions, which also allows the system to be used in certain soffit and ventilation applications. Current Proboard offerings include 24- and 22-gauge steel.

One of the main visual advantages of Proboard is the range of finish options. Westform currently lists numerous architectural and woodgrain finishes including options such as Acorn, Autumn, Barn Board, Birch, Canyon, Durango, Espresso, Gunstock and other solid or specialty colours, depending on the selected profile and coating system.

Westform Prolok

Prolok is offered in 12-inch and 16-inch panel widths with a concealed fastening system. Its 1-inch rib creates pronounced vertical shadow lines that can produce a strong board-and-batten-inspired appearance on exterior walls. Westform currently lists 26- and 24-gauge options along with a broad range of prefinished steel colours.

The wider panel format can make Prolok useful on larger residential, multi-family and commercial elevations where the project calls for a clean metal exterior without exposed fasteners.

Board & Batten, Lap Siding, Variable Plank & Square Wave

Westform’s current Custom Cladding collection expands beyond its traditional Proboard and Prolok systems. The manufacturer lists Board & Batten, Lap Siding, Variable Plank and Square Wave as part of its residential architectural cladding range.

Board & Batten uses a hidden-fastener profile and floating clip system intended to allow panel movement as the metal expands and contracts. Westform’s Lap Siding uses a similar concealed fastening approach while creating the horizontal overlapping appearance associated with conventional lap siding. Variable Plank introduces changing panel widths and depths for more visual variation, while Square Wave provides a more contemporary geometric metal profile.

These options allow Westform metal cladding to work with both traditional and contemporary architecture rather than limiting the material to an industrial corrugated appearance.

Colours, Woodgrains & Architectural Finishes

Westform supplies a broad catalogue of prefinished steel colours using several coating and finish families, including SMP, PVDF and specialty printed wood-look finishes. Current cladding literature includes traditional colours, metallic finishes, textured options and woodgrain patterns such as Barn Board, Gunstock, Ponderosa, Saddle and other architectural tones. Availability varies by profile and gauge.

Because printed samples and screens cannot perfectly reproduce finished metal, final colour selections should be made using current physical product samples for the exact Westform profile being specified.

Installation & Exterior Detailing

Metal siding performance depends heavily on the surrounding exterior details. Flashings, window and door transitions, panel movement, fasteners, drainage and separation from dissimilar metals all need to be considered as part of the wall assembly. Westform specifically cautions against uncontrolled contact between dissimilar metals because of galvanic-corrosion risk and provides profile-specific flashing, fastening and technical resources.

Diamond Exteriors coordinates Westform siding and cladding with the building envelope, rainscreen, flashings, soffit, fascia and surrounding exterior materials so the metal is treated as one part of the complete exterior system rather than as an isolated finish.

Maintenance

Prefinished steel cladding is generally low maintenance, but it is not maintenance-free. Westform recommends removing construction debris and metal filings after installation and periodically cleaning prefinished surfaces. Protected areas beneath overhangs may benefit from annual cleaning because natural rainfall does not wash those areas as effectively. Abrasive cleaners should be avoided.

Westform Warranty

Westform currently publishes a limited 40-year warranty for qualifying pre-painted metal products. The warranty addresses corrosion perforation and certain paint-film failures such as chipping, cracking or peeling, subject to the manufacturer’s conditions, exclusions, installation requirements and maintenance requirements. The published warranty is non-transferable.

Westform’s current Custom Cladding literature also distinguishes some finishes: painted products are identified with a 40-year limited warranty, while certain Polyester Printech products are identified with a 20-year limited warranty. Exact warranty coverage should therefore be confirmed for the specific profile, gauge and finish selected for each project.

Westform gives homeowners, designers, builders and property managers several ways to incorporate architectural steel into an exterior—from wood-look Proboard accents and concealed-fastener Prolok siding to modern board-and-batten, lap and custom-profile cladding.

It can be used selectively with fibre-cement siding, stucco, masonry and other materials or developed into a larger coordinated metal-cladding scope for residential, multi-family, new-construction and commercial exterior projects.
