Weather-Resistive Barriers & Exterior Wall Protection

Weather-resistive barriers, commonly called WRBs, form an important layer behind exterior siding and cladding. Their primary role is to help manage water that passes behind the finished exterior and direct it toward the outside of the wall assembly. Depending on the selected product and wall design, a WRB system may also contribute to air-control, drainage and vapor-management performance.

Once older siding or cladding is removed, accessible sheathing, existing housewrap, flashing and wall transitions can be assessed before new exterior materials are installed. Where required by the project scope, the weather-resistive barrier can then be repaired, replaced or upgraded before the new rainscreen and cladding system are completed.
