Soffit and fascia form the finished roofline where exterior walls meet the roof overhang.

Soffit covers the underside of the roof overhang and can contribute to attic ventilation, while fascia creates the finished vertical edge along the roofline and provides the visual transition into the gutter system.

Material options can include aluminum soffit, wood soffit, architectural metal and specialty wood-look systems depending on the building design. Aluminum remains a common choice because it is available in solid and ventilated profiles, multiple gauges and coordinated factory-finished colours.

Fascia can be finished using aluminum or other exterior-grade materials coordinated with the soffit, gutters and siding.

A complete soffit and fascia scope should consider ventilation, roof-edge conditions, gutters, flashings and any deterioration discovered behind the existing materials. This is particularly important during exterior renovations where damaged wood or poor previous detailing may only become visible after the original soffit or fascia is removed.
