Lap Siding

Lap siding is one of the most established exterior siding forms. Horizontal boards overlap or visually step across the wall, creating strong horizontal lines and a familiar residential appearance.

The same basic design is now available in several materials. Diamond Exteriors installs fibre-cement lap siding, engineered-wood siding, natural cedar and newer architectural aluminum lap-siding systems depending on the design and performance requirements of the project.

James Hardie HardiePlank is a major fibre-cement lap-siding product, while LP SmartSide offers engineered-wood alternatives. Western Red Cedar remains available in traditional bevel and channel configurations, and Longboard now manufactures a 6-inch architectural-aluminum lap-siding profile.

This variety allows lap siding to work on traditional homes, modern renovations, custom homes and multi-material façades. It can be combined with board and batten, stone, stucco, metal panels and other cladding systems to divide elevations and create architectural contrast.

Regardless of material, installation needs to coordinate clearances, flashing, windows, doors, corners, rainscreen and the weather-resistive barrier behind the siding.
